Trading Up: Dereenatra, Schull €565,000

THERE’S only been a handful of €500,000+ house sales in the chi-chi coastal Schull area of West Cork since the Price Register started picking up on sales, post 2010.

Trading Up: Dereenatra, Schull €565,000

About eight properties show on the Register as having made excess €500k, and one of the bigger Schull vicinity sales was Cuileann Cottage, a waterfronting home by Dereenatra pier, which sold for a reported €712,000.

Now, also with a Dereenatra address, but slightly more inland and elevated, is this c 2,200 sq ft architect-designed home, close to coves at Dereenatra and Rossbrin and two miles from Schull itself.

Local estate agent James Lyons O’Keeffe says it has views of Roaringwater Bay and the Fastnet lighthouse, is on superbly and colourfully landscaped and maintained grounds of 0.75 of an acre and adds, “every detail is meticulously planned and executed giving an air of spaciousness and intimacy for family use in all areas on the ground floor, and on the galleried floor above... and this extends out into the surrounding garden.”

He guides at €565,000, and as well as the four-bed home, there’s a lofted detached garage/studio.

Design was by architect Paul Mulligan, now with Reddy Architecture + Urbanism in Cork, and the clients were his parents...so it’s safe to presume a high level of thought and building supervision went into its delivery!

VERDICT: Quality home
