Listed with agent Jackie Cohalan of Cohalan Downing Associates is Ashlee Lodge in Tower, about 5km from Blarney, 1.8km from Muskerry Golf Club and 13km from Cork City.

Run as a four-star boutique accommodation business since the early 2000s, it traded until late 2016 according to online reviews, and scores four and a half stars out of five on Tripadvisor, as well as being highly endorsed by booking.com.

It operated as a 4-star with Fáilte Ireland, 5 Gold Stars with the AA and has been in the Bridgestone Guide 100 top places to stay in Ireland since 2002.

Describing the condition as being immaculate, Ms Cohalan says the 499 sq m/5,370 sq ft Ashlee Lodge has 10 bedrooms, comprising six large executive rooms, one with facilities for the disabled, and four suites. Several have jacuzzi baths and all have air conditioning.

Living/guest accommodation includes a large sitting room with stove, dining room with vaulted ceiling, part glazed, there’s a separate self-contained owner’s unit also included.

In addition there’s an office, reception, conservatory, kitchen, and utility, plus stores.

Externally there’s gardens, parking for 10 cars, pond and storage.

Proximity to Cork, and especially the top tourist spot of Blarney, underpin a guest business for new owners, but it has other accommodation potential also, says CDA’s Jackie Cohaland.

  • Meanwhile, also in a top Munster tourist town is Wytchwood, a purpose built guesthouse just off Emmet Place in Clonakilty, the Georgian hub of the coastal town.

Listed with auctioneer Ray O’Neil of Sherry FitzGerald O’Neill, Wytchwood is a five-bed, en suite, 3,800sq ft, two-storey detached townhouse with private gardens.

Built 20 years ago behind the elegant public square and its tall Georgian homes which now also accommodate the Michael Collins Museum, Wytchwood “has been finished to a top quality standard and is ideal for town living”, says Mr O’Neill.

It has a lounge, dining room, kitchen, family room, conservatory, utility, study, five en suite bedrooms, and can be adapted to have a self contained apartment with three bedrooms.
