When built day-one, the three-storey homes at Cork’s Pembroke Woods in Passage West were notable for being, tall, and thin, as the developers Manor Park and Barry Supple sought to maximise site ratio density and getting as many detacheds into rows as possible.

They weren’t alone in this this upwards movement: the late 1990s and early 2000s saw a lot of three-storey builds added into the previously more predictable housing mix, but some here in Passage did stand out as being a bit lean or even meagre in terms of width.

No 21 Pembroke Park Drive is different as it has been extended to the side, over all three levels, and that adds about an extra 40% to the house’s original floor area, standing as a result at just a shade over 2,000 sq ft.

Selling agent James Crowley says it has lots of extra features such as the large side and rear extension with rear sun room, extra large utility room, walk-in storage space, cul-de-sac setting and walled-in garden, plus garden shed by the house’s retained side passage.

One of its five bedrooms is en suite, and there’s a multitude of rooms, many on the compact side, though the sitting room is 19’ long by 9’, and the kitchen/diner the best, at 25’ by 11’, next to a lounge/sun-room with part-glazed divide.

VERDICT: Broader welcome
