Three-bed home in West Cork a stone’s skim from the beach

You are high, and dry, and almost hovering over the beach and the coastal views, at this seaside home in Tragumna, Co Cork, called none other than Beach House.

Three-bed home in West Cork a stone’s skim from the beach

West Cork, €250,000

Size: 93 sq m (1,000 sq ft)

Bedrooms: 3

Bathrooms: 1

BER: N/A

Best Feature: Life’s a beach

Doing exactly what it says on the tin or the sand bucket, Beach House is a seaside bolt-hole a few miles out of Skibbereen, on a 0.2 acre elevated site, which means that no matter what happens with global warming, melting polar caps and rising sea levels after President Trump’s smoggy green light to the US coal industry, this pad should remain smugly impervious to the lapping waters.

It’s set high on a rock just across the road from the parking spot by popular Tragumna beach, with two choices of access: there are pedestrian steps with a hand rail to the front, and that’s the quickest way down and back up again to the strand for dip in the ocean, while a drive curves uphill and around to the rear for cars and more general access.

Skib estate agent Pat Maguire guides the several decades’ old Beach House at €250,000: hesays it now needs modernising, but it seem to have lots to work with, so perhaps tacking central heating and insulation might be a starting point for year-round cosiness.

Currently, the three-bed, c 1,000 sq ft detached house has electric heating, plus a wood-burning stove in the main living section.

Given there’s so much roof pitch with the double pitch roof, solar panels or cells might be an obvious, energy efficient add-on?

Internally, it has linked living and dining section, with vaulted pine-clad ceilings in some areas, including two bedrooms (all three bedrooms are small) as well as a front sun-room with large picture window.

There’s an electric shower in the sole bathroom and, handily, Ideal to be decorated with a nautical/marine theme, Beach House has mains water/services.

VERDICT: If you do like to be beside the seaside, Beach House will tick lots of boxes.
