U2 may still not have found what they are looking for, but their tour manager for over 30 years, the late Dennis Sheehan, certainly found the home he had been searching for when he built Ballyconnery Lodge in Dungarvan.

Since 2001, this four bed 2,000 sq ft property was his home when he wasn’t touring the world with U2 and (as he has been credited with) making sure that the band kept running on time.

Although he was born in the UK, Mr Sheehan settled in Dungarvan because this is where his parents had emigrated from and returned to when he was a child.

The back stage passes which he collected from many, many U2 concerts are still hanging in his office at the property.

It is from this room he probably made plans for the Vertigo Tour in 2005, The 360 degree tour in 2009 and the Innocent and Experience tour in 2015: It was while U2 were playing in Los Angeles during the latter, 2015 tour, that Mr Sheehan died suddenly of a heart attack at a hotel in East Hollywood.

His home, Ballyconnery Lodge which is situated on a gently sloping wooded hillside seven kilmetres from Dungarvan, has now come on the market with a guide of €525,000.

Selling agents Denise Radley auctioneers say it was built to a high standard by local builders Thomas Walsh & Sons and offers wonderful privacy and space.

At the front of the bungalow is a large timber-floored living room with a high ceiling, a bay window and an archway leading through to a spacious kitchen/dining room.

Fitted with Shaker style kitchen units, it has a breakfast bar and a Rangermaster cooker.

Behind the second bay window at the front is a large master bedroom with mirrored Sliderobes, fitted bookshelves, a built in TV unit and an en suite bathroom.

At the side of the property, with views of woodland, is the home office with built-in shelving where Mr Sheehan most likely planned the logistics of the major U2 Tours.

Other accommodation includes a utility room off the kitchen as well as a WC, a bathroom and three bedrooms.

Ballyconnery Lodge is on a site of a third of an acre and has a long sweeping tarmac driveway with electric gates.

To the side there’s a detached garage and, to the front, a patio, some planted beds and an expanse of lawn.

Ms Radley says the bungalow is attracting interest from local families on the hunt for trade-up properties and is also being viewed by UK buyers planning to spend their retirement in Ireland.

It’s set only a few kilometres from Dungarvan, where the official opening of the spectacular Déise Greenway walking and cycling route along the former scenic railway line from Dungarvan to Waterford later this year is set to make the area an even stronger tourism draw.

VERDICT: likely to be exactly what some buyer is looking for
