Site corners in on Cork’s longest street

A profile corner site at the end of what’s often described as the longest city street in Cork, Blarney St, is for sale.

Likely best suited for housing, the 0.7-acre site is at the junction of Shanakiel Rd and Blarney St, with 120m of frontage to each road.

The junction, busy because of Apple’s HQ a kilometre away, made headlines last summer when a faulty traffic light lit up the figure of Christ on the long-standing Calvary Shrine.

Broadly triangular in shape, and fringed in old hedges, the site previously had a single dwelling on it, and could accommodate a number of houses.

It is zoned for residential, local services, and institutional uses, says agent Declan Hickey of Casey & Kingston, who guides at €700,000.

It could be open to other uses if adjoining property were to be separately acquired, it is suggested.
