Trading up: Kenmare, Kerry €350,000
Not too many developments in popular holiday spots got, built, or sold, on as much as an acre, but that was one of the stand-out feature of Hawthorn Woods, when it was developed in Kenmare around 2003.
The scheme of 10 or 12 large dormer homes built in woodland by the Sheen Falls five-star hotel a kilometre or so from the town was undertaken by O’Connor Developments, and found favour with families and relocaters, as there was so much space inside and outside for year-round comforts, not just for holiday weekends.
By 2007, values (or, at least asking prices) on resale had gone as high as €700,000, and now, No 3 is for sale, seeking offers of €350,000 via agent Maurcice Cohalan of Cohalan Downing.
As relatively recent price comparables, the Price Register shows a 2015 sale, of No 10, for €305,000, while No 4 sold in 2013 for €325,000.
No 3 is a good-sized four-bed detached dormer, in landscaped and wooded grounds just off the N71 picturesque Kenmare/Glengarriff road, and the land here once belonged to the Sheen Falls estate.
Accommodation includes a living room, kitchen/diner with tiled floor and maple style units, a gable end sun room with vaulted ceiling, utility, guest WC and ground floor fourth bedroom/study.
One of the three first floor bedrooms is en suite.
