Among the brightly coloured terraced properties in the West Cork village of Union Hall, The Little Yellow Gallery is quite probably the brightest of them all.

When she set up her studio and gallery, Avril McDermott the artist who owns it , chose this striking shade of yellow to get attention.

Settling in West Cork around six years ago to paint scenic landscapes and brightly coloured boats and cottages, she bought, renovated and extended this property on Main Street.

Auctioneer Par Maguire who has just dropped the asking price by €11,000 to €199,000 says it’s charming and colourful with some nice old features as well as a modern kitchen and double-glazed windows.

Beyond this in the extension is a second sittingroom with a stove and a glass partition separating it from a modern kitchen with cream units and grey tiles.

To the rear there’s also a ground floor bedroom and a shower room while upstairs there are two more bedrooms.

Behind the property is a very long back garden where Ms McDermott has planted a multitude of brightly coloured flowers. She also built three sheds — one blue, one yellow and one red.

The yellow one nearest the house has the most flowers and is used as a studio.

Moving elsewhere in search of new scenery to paint, Ms McDermott has, while living in the Little Yellow Gallery, published a book Time and Place , a collection of paintings of the colourful towns and villages of West Cork.

Verdict: Could be a cheerful summer residence
