ENGINEERS, builders, and families with renovation on their minds have mostly made up the 50 or so viewers who have visited Old Castle on the Curragh Road in Turners Cross during the last two weeks.

Major renovation is required but the four bed house has attracted close to 3,500 online views.

This is down to that fact that it’s detached, in Turners Cross, and on the market with a guide of €240,000.

“It’s in a sought-after residential area and is on a large private site with gardens at back and front.

"It needs major renovation, including some structural work, but has the making of a magnificent residence,” says auctioneer Diarmuid Dooley who recently joined Midleton-based auctioneers McCarthy & McGrath and who who have re-opened a Cork city office on the South Mall after a gap of almost 30 years.

Built in the 1930s Old Castle has approximately 1,370 sq ft of living space. The largest room is a 29’ long living room which stretches from a bay window at the front to patio doors at the rear.

There’s also a kitchen, a storage area, a dining area, a utility area, as well as a bathroom and four bedrooms. On the top floor an attic room with a skylight has been added.

To the front there’s a driveway and a lawn, to the side a garage and to the rear a large garden with a huge old laburnum tree.

Located directly across from Cork City Football Club, Old Castle is within walking distance of the city centre.

VERDICT: A project for transformation
