WHEN you read on the brochure that the owners have chosen a Farrow & Ball paint colour for their kitchen and used reclaimed slate for the patio, you know that the décor in 12 The Maples at Castlejane in Glanmire is going to be good.

While many people take the quick and easy, ‘you-can’t-go-wrong-with-magnolia’ approach to decorating, the owners of this three bed semi have obviously invested both thought and time in their colour scheme.

What must have started out in 2006, as a very standard property is now a stylish home with a very attractive garden at the rear.

Estate agent Gillian McDonnell of Sherry FitzGerald says a first-time buyer would be hard pushed to find another property in this price range with the same standard of finish.

Offering 1,000 sq ft of living space, the split level house has a long, walnut-floored living room at the front which is mostly painted white but has green floral wallpaper on one wall and a fireplace with a gas fire.

A set of stairs at the back of the living room leads down to a modern kitchen dining room on a lower level.

Here the solid oak Shaker style units are painted a shade of Farrow & Ball grey and the floor has been done in Italian Travertine tiles.

Outside the back patio doors is a long garden with a lot going on. In front of the door there’s a patio which uses reclaimed slate from St Finbarr’s Cathedral and at the bottom of the garden there’s raised decking.

The owners didn’t just add decking and leave it at that, they painted the back wall white and put some redbrick features on top.

They also added a raised bed with colourful blooms, found space for a shed and a playhouse and put in a covered sandpit next to the decking.

The final touch was rattan style furniture with space for relaxation after all their hard work.

Ms McDonnell expects good interest both because of the property’s condition and because of its location. Situated within a five minute drive from local shops in Glanmire, it’s just a 15 minute drive from the city centre.
