Trading up: Victoria Cross, Cork City €335,000

There’s a surprise at the end of the back garden at 1 Suncroft: it’s the start of the southern channel of the River Lee, as it starts to split and wrap its course around the ‘island’ of the city.
Trading up: Victoria Cross, Cork City €335,000

Size: 122 sq m (1,314sq ft)

Bathrooms: 2

Bedrooms: 3

BER Rating: C1

Suncroft is just on the northern fringe of Cork’s Victoria Cross, and is a slight oddity as it’s a row of quite suburban semi-ds, in a western suburban setting that’s increasingly gone high-rise.

Resolutely low rise is this terrace of semis (plus pharmacy) which marks the end of the Straight Road and the last run into the heart of the city centre.

Now No 1 Suncroft on this short run, of less than a dozen homes, is for sale.

Estate agent Barry Nagle of Global Properties says the 1,300 sq ft three-bed semi (actually it’s on the western, outside of three houses comprising Suncroft) is now extended and upgraded post the 2011 floods, with alarm, double glazing and a C2 BER, with off-street parking for two cars.

It’s investor-owned, but there’s also a good owner-occupier mix and already, a few of the neighbouring semis have put on swanky extensions, capitalising on the river proximity, and apart from passing wildlife, the odd canoeing group also voyages by on this leafy stretch leading on down towards the UCC campus.

VERDICT: The river’s proximity will be a boon for some and deterrent to others.
