Cobh split-level bungalow is ripe for reconfiguration

A home bar and views of Cork Harbour are enticing features of a bungalow with character, says Tommy Barker.
Cobh split-level bungalow is ripe for reconfiguration

Cobh, Cork Harbour €360,000

Size: 208 sq m (2230 sq ft)

Bedrooms: 3

Bathrooms: 2

BER: Pending

THERE’S an advertising line used by a coastal business that runs “where nothing is overlooked, but the sea”.

Well, last week’s House of the Week was Seafield, in Cobh, where the “nothing overlooked” line might have fitted like a glove, such is that house’s harbour aspect.

But, unfortunately, such was the flow of maritime-related prose and points noting that this week is Cork’s Harbour Festival and Ocean to City rowing race that Seafield’s selling agent’s name was overlooked: it’s local Cobh agent Johanna Murphy, who guides that large Victorian beauty on the Low Road in Cobh at €635,000.

Now, for those who don’t have budgets in that league, Ms Murphy also has another Cork home with character of a later era on the market at 5 Mount Eaton, Cobh, guiding €360,000.

It’s a more modern home, bright and comfortable and split level with three bedrooms, with a garden area home bar and games room, with US flags on the ceiling.

Yet, as there’s over 2,200 sq ft as it stands, there’s much scope in this split-level bungalow for reconfiguration, alterations and changes of use if new owners want a different use of rooms.

Current living areas, and kitchen/diner, are done to a good level and there are views to be had down to the harbour below, past neighbouring homes.

There’s a basement room off one of the three bedrooms which could be adapted to dressing room/en suite use, suggests the selling agent.

Ms Murphy says that at €360,000 it represent good value for money, for the floor area and site, which includes drive, garage with granny flat scope, lower level lawn and decked patio.

VERDICT: Float your boat
