Trading up: Dingle, Kerry, €425,000
The actors, in Kerry for the filming of the 1992 Ron Howard flick, Far and Away, rented the private home, as there was just too much Hollywood-related kerfuffle at the time of filming in the area where Ryan’s Daughter had preceded it for scenic appreciation of Dingle.
“Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were the first to stay in this house, as it was just built, at the time, and, today, the owners still have the ‘Thank You’ card they signed,” says estate agent Paul Stephenson, who’s now selling the pink-painted property (Dingle’s much-loved by Hollywood, from Ryan’s Daughter, in 1970, to Star Wars, today, which was shot on Slea Head.)
The Sherry FitzGerald Stephenson Crean agent (who just sold a 7,000 sq ft architect’s home over the Conor Pass for €530,000) is now selling this Far and Away-linked home for its long-time owners, and while it’s hard to think of stars of the calibre of Cruise and Kidman bunking down in an Irish dormer bungalow, he says the interior is very deceptive and the setting, at Burnham, across the harbour from Dingle, is lovely.
It has three of its four bedrooms en-suite (one’s at ground level), it has three reception rooms, plus a games room, rear patio and scene-stealing views over Dingle Bay, and is within a scenic walk of the town, too.
