Mid-Ship House in Crookhaven is ready to set sail

WITH a recovering economy comes a return (for some at least,) to thoughts of sunnier days ahead… and of holliers and holiday homes.

For the sunnier, or the wealthier, here’s a buy that will tick boxes, on the edge of chi-chi Crookhaven in West Cork.

Called Mid-Ship House, this three-storey quality build is one of three homes built in a niche called The Cobbles, and has been a high-end rental in the main, but now could be bought as private second or retirement home, with scope to bolster income at any stage with the odd summer let.

Built in the mid 2000s, to a contemporary design by Skibbereen architect Donal Hoare, Mid Ship House has 1,800 sq ft in all, with a bright demeanour, quality finishes, and has three first floor bedrooms (one’s en suite), plus an office, play room and shower room on the top/second floor/ Selling agent is Pat Maguire in Skibbereen, who first floated it for sale in late summer 2015, and now he’s relaunching it for spring.

He describes it as “magnificently crafted, and finished to the highest standards throughout,” guiding it at €350,000.

Mr Maguire remarks that there’s been a pick up in interest in coastal holiday homes, and says he’s had three recent second-home sales in Union Hall, Baltimore and Rosscarbery of sub €200k properties.

Mid-Ship House is on a site of 0.2 of an acre, and has deep-bore geothermal heating, helping it hit a very respectable B1 BER, and it comes with underfloor heating, mains services, and broadband.
