EVEN before a one-hour session of open viewings this day last weekend at 12pm, the selling agents of 3, The Point had had up to 20 interested viewers passing though this Fountainstown coastal home, launched in a stormy mid-January market with a €350,000 price guide.
By now, this Strand Road bungalow will have had several dozen peoples’ appetites whetted, and hopes raised of balmy summer days by the beach, by the by and by the buy.
Key to the attraction, of course, is the setting just back from Fountainstown beach by the long strand inlet, where waves can be seen rolling up on the tides, and just above where locals keep dinghies, punts and kayaks on a sandy and grassy spit, in view under No 3’s The Point’s sloping site.
There are glistening water views from several of the rooms in this 1,570 sq ft three-bed dormer, and it could easily have an attic extension also, says estate agent Janet Higgins, of Sherry FitzGerald O’Donovan.
She says the dwelling was built around 2004, and is on a large corner site overlooking wooded Ringabella (the period Ringabella House and 38 acres across the way has also been for sale for some time, at a far higher sum) and the appeal of No 3 now will primarily be for full-time residence, in an area more traditionally associated with holiday homes.
However, the fact that the strip from Myrtlevile to Fountainstown — a fabulous coastal location, Ms Higgins notes — is just a 10-minute hop to Carrigaline makes it a daily commute option, with timing and traffic in Carrigaline then deciding the onward journey times to Cork city.
A number of neighbouring homes have had significant upgrades in the past decade, and some very dramatic one-offs have snuck in along the cliffs between the beaches and back roads too, and any site with a view is sought-after.
Currently internally, No 3 Strand Road has an 18’ by 17’ high-ceilinged living room with lots of glazing and a cherrywood floor, and the even larger 23’ by 17’ kitchen/diner has a vaulted ceiling, and a high-up gable apex window.
It has three bedrooms, all floored with cherrywood, one is en suite, and the main family bathroom has a jacuzzi bath, for bone-warming up after a day in the sea below.
: A good spot to get stranded at.
