Tommy Barker finds a superbly finished four bedroomed family home high up on Cork’s Airport Hill.

Splashes of colour everywhere at this vibrant family home on Airport Hill

SAVE for a bit of sculpture to the front, there’s not many clues to the vibrant colours brightening up the interiors of No 4 Ardross, a decent-sized four-bed home on the side of Cork’s Airport Hill, at Lehenaghmore.

Built a decade or so ago, it’s a stone fronted dormer, with more than 2,600 sq ft, on a 0.75 acre site five minutes from the Ring Road, and near the Ruden Homes Mathew Hill development.

No 4’s now for sale with agent Barry Smith, of James G Coughlan Associates, and he’s keen to get more people though the doors to appreciate the quality of interiors, mosaic bathrooms and contemporary finishes here. He guides at €595,000.

There are splashes of colour everywhere, and a real sense of vibrancy, and lots of it comes from the art hanging on the walls. Here, it’s an ‘inside job’ as one of the owners is a professional artist, so his home is his canvas.

The first splashes of colour come as soon as you put a foot inside the front door, where there’s a quirky cartoon image-like rug, on a pale tiled floor next to a stairs done in walnut, with clear glass baluster panels and stainless steel handrails.

There’s a choice here of two reception rooms, one’s a double aspect family room with bay window, parquet floor in a herringbone pattern, and it has a solid fuel inset stove in a simple, cut out hearth.

There’s a larger (19’ by 14’) living room, with an arch linking to a conservatory with vaulted ceilings and window seating with open storage underneath; both this sunny room and the living room have garden access, the latter via over-size sliding patio doors to outdoor decking.

There’s an above-standard quality kitchen, with dark wood-effect glossy units up on legs, topped with white counters and there’s a glass splash-back, behind the stainless steel range-style cooker, which is also up on legs, helping to give an airy impression.

There’s also a staggered central island, with seating on cheerful, red upholstered bar stools.

The kitchen has the same, pale tiled floor as in the hall, as does the adjoining diningroom, and there’s a utility alongside, and a guest WC.

Overhead, No 4 Ardross has four bedrooms. On paper, the master bedroom’s not the largest of the four wood-floored rooms, at 13’ by 13’, but it does have a wall of sliderobes, and, a superb en suite, 15’ by 13’ at max measurement, and it has a double wet-room type shower with multi-head jets in one corner, and a raised Jacuzzi bath in another niche.

The bath’s raised plinth is fully done in mosaic tiles, as are some of the walls, and coloured glass blocks feature by the shower.

And, the family bathroom matches it in style and glass, with similar mosaic tiling around a corner bath, the floor also is done in small mosaic tiles and the room has a walk-in shower, with multi jets.

Outside, there’s loads of space and parking, and as well as a 500 sq ft detached garage, there are play areas, a treehouse/playhouse, a seated decked corner section with views from this raised perch by the Airport Hill, landscaped back garden with maturing shrubs and trees, and old rail sleepers on the vertical used as garden divides.

VERDICT:

Make a good offer and show the colour of your money, and the vendors may even throw in some quality art into the bargain at No 4 Ardross.
