Trading up: Wilton Road, Cork €325,000

There’s a big sale coming up in Cork suburban Wilton — try €70m for size — as the shopping centre anchored by Tesco and Penneys gets offered as part of a Nama retail portfolio worth €115m in all.

But, for us lesser mortals and mortgagees, how about this other, more manageable buy? Set to be auctioned on September 29 by Shane Finn of DNG Creedon is Kenvilla, a six-bed home at the Dennehys Cross/Wilton Road junction.

Packing an impressive six bedrooms, but needing work, it skirts the grounds of the 1957-built Holy Ghost Church, right along its lengthy site.

The area’s a mix of residential and commercial/medical, now well-served by shops and eateries, and is also close to colleges like UCC and CIT, plus hospitals like the Bons and CUH, so there may be investor interest as well as owner-occupier bidding on the 29th.

Two of its six double bedrooms (as currently configured) are at ground level, and there are three bathrooms.

“This is a really interesting purchase, there’s a huge back garden, and the location is amazing,” notes Mr Finn.

At the AMV, it’s the dearest of the one-dozen lots set to be auctioned by DNG at month’s end.

VERDICT: Needs work — but a blessed western suburban location.
