Tommy Barker takes a look at a spot-on setting for suburbanistas.

Just off the Evergreen Road end of Tower Street in Cork City is this narrow run of terraced homes called O’Connorville — and, now, No 1 by O’Connorville’s entrance, on the right-hand side is for sale, with a few trump cards up its sleeve.

The setting is spot on for suburbanistas, those who’ll relish the proximity to the city, or even to University College Cork. Either, or both, are a short walk.

The narrow cul-de-sac streetway is quiet, and houses on this side of the street have short front gardens, and residents have to compete for parking spaces.

Not so at No 1: as end of terrace, it gets to have an attached garage on the side, with off-street parking in front of it, so it really has advantages over nearly all of its near neighbours.

Then, there’s a yard behind the garage, so more outdoors space, but even that’s not all.

There’s a second, smaller encircled yard behind the house section to boot, so for a compact city home, there’s a trio of places to sit out and take the sun at, to plant up, or park a bike or a shed.

Let’s not overlook the house: it’s an old-fashioned pad with two upstairs bedrooms, it has two ground-floor reception rooms and a small kitchen which in turn leads to a long bathroom across the back of the site, wrapping around the second tiny yard.

Estate agent Lawrence Sweeney of Savills guides No 1 O’Connorville at €100,000 and says it’s spacious and bright. Spacious might be overstating it, but perhaps with potential to colonise the attached garage, it could become even more so, in time.

VERDICT: Park yourself at this city pad.
