Midleton hotel is reaching ‘four’ a star as investment continues
The long-established 79-bed hotel, the only one in the town which has a population of 12,000, was bought last year via Savills for over €3 million by Wexford-based Talbot Hotel Group, who then bought the Oriel House Hotel in Ballincollig,Cork, for €8m.
Since the MPH purchase, wedding business has gone up to 50 events a year, and climbing, and the former three-star hotel is moving to four-star status this year under young new GM Patrick Shields.
The on-going €1m refurbishment included renovated function rooms, landscaping of a private garden, new lobby and restaurant expansion to 130 seats. There’s also a bedrooms upgrade, with three new suites pitched at local corporate guests.
“We have experienced incredible growth in a short space of time,” says Mr Shields, with wedding business up by 500% this year, the 1,500 member leisure centre has been upgraded, also with rising numbers, and the hotel’s tapping in to the local community via the East Cork Business Alliance, supporting local charities and sports bodies.
