All’s swell at Cobh’s Kingswell

Tommy Barker heads to Cobh to visit one of its high class big ‘uns on the High Road above the town.

All’s swell at Cobh’s Kingswell

The Cobh, harbour home Kingswell is steeped in local lore, and boating links, as the town is due to get a new 75-berth marina within the coming year.

A large, over-basement house, Kingswell dates back to the 1850s, and was built for officers in the British navy back when Cobh was called Queenstown, and local legend has it that there’s an identical pair of semis in Dun Laoghaire, south Dublin, dating to the same Victorian era, when that town was called Kingstown.
