Trading up: Waterfall, Cork €435,000

First stop for the old West Cork Railway line once trains were over the dramatic, soaring 90’ viaduct at Chetwynd in Cork was this Waterfall station spot, where the former railway station manager’s house is now up for sale.

A nice mix of old world charm with domestic comforts, the three-bed, slate-hung home is on grounds of 0.29 of an acre at Castlewhite, Waterfall, above the Cork-Bandon road, and includes some outbuildings and sheds.

The owner has been here 30 years, and has minded the house and its gardens, and it would be easily extended, says estate agent Trish Stokes of Lisney, who guides at €435,000.

The trains stopped running past this property on Good Friday, 1961, ending a 100 year-long rail link on the Cork, Bandon and south coast.

There are views back towards Cork city now from quaint Railway House, which inside has a main 18’ by 15’ living room, kitchen with wet-room/shower room off, and overhead there’s a WC and sink with the largest (12’ by 11’) bedroom.

Meanwhile, also in the same Castlewhite, Waterfall area, Lisney’s Ms Stokes has a three-bed bungalow, on 4.9 acres, also priced at €435,000.

VERDICT: With easily done extensions, Railway House would be on track to better things.
