Sale agreed on site of former Crow’s Nest bar in Cork suburbs
The latter hotel is currently undergoing a costly refit by its new owners, the Kang family, owners also of the Fota Resort.
The former Crow’s Nest bar one-acre site at Victoria Cross and the Carrigrohane Straight Road, was assembled by the John Fleming Group over a number of years and was offered via Eoin Ryan of DTZ for receiver George Maloney of Baker Tilly Ryan Glennon, with a €1m guide.
However, despite good interest the price paid is sub that €1m sum — likely to be just over €750,000.
At one stage a 15-storey tower was proposed for the site, with the building damaged by fire ten years ago. It has planning currently for a seven-story building with 42 student apartments, or 200 beds.
The buyer’s identity, and plans for the site, haven’t yet been divulged.
DTZ described the site as pivotal, serving commuters to Bishopstown, Wilton and Ballincollig, as well as near UCC, the Bon Secours, Cork County Hall and Civic Offices, and slightly further out the CUH, with over 1,000 student beds in the vicinity. The acre property includes the bar, an enclosed car park, a warehouse building and a terrace of four houses on Carrigrohane Road, where there’s 90m frontage.
