Kinsale’s Desmond House features in upcoming Munster Property Auction
One of the larger lots due under the hammer is Kinsale’s Desmond House, a six-bed quality guesthouse at 42 Cork Street, Kinsale. It’s offered in partnership with local agent James Murphy Auctioneers, seeking bids over €525,000 and is, Mr Murphy says, an exceptional period Georgian residence with five of its six bedrooms en suite. It has almost 3,500 sq ft of accommodation, run to four-star levels and can be run as a business, or private use.
Other lots at the My 7 Rochestown Park Hotel auction will include houses and investments, farm land and commercial properties, says spokesperson Gerry Owens. Among those offered is the long-established Burns Hairdressers, by the bus station on Parnell Place which is currently getting a street make-over courtesy of Cork City Council. The 484 sq ft unit is offered at bids over €87,500 in partnership with Property Partners Matt Fallon. It has been run as family-run gents hairdressers for a remarkable 91 years and so “is a proven location,” comments Mr Fallon.
Even more of a snip is 129 Lower Glanmire Road, by the city’s rail station. A former licensed premises, trading as the Olympic Bar, the building with two overhead apartments but needing renovations is offered at bids over €65,000 in partnership with Thos J O’Driscoll Auctioneers. Gerry Ownes of Munster Property Auction says their modern auction method means buyers with mortgages can purchase and adds “we have a large selection of realistically-priced properties available. The key for successful sales is to have the pricing at the right levels to encourage bidding. Buyers are free to bid up to whatever level they are comfortable with and a sale is agreed providing the reserve figure is achieved.”
