Trading up: Cork City, €235,000

The chance to do the right thing for a period, Victorian era home in a strong Cork city location has cropped up with the sale of Craigmore.

Set in a cul de sac section of Connaught Avenue, just on the city side of UCC off Donovan’s Road, it’s a three storey home with a lot of its original detailing remaining intact and in situ, but it needs a bit of rehab too to get up to modern comfort standards.

Likely to have been a rental property in the recent past, it has a layout with two bedrooms at attic level, and currently there’s just one bathroom, on the first floor return.

Selling agent Johnny O’Flynn of Sherry FtizGerald guides Craigmore at €235,000 and admits that house is “more or less as originally built, but offers the bones of a very fine family home.”

The ground floor front room has heaps of character, with square bay window and wood panelling, and although the house is terraced, there’s external access to the walled-in and paved back garden where there’s an oil tank for the heating.

VERDICT: Roll up the sleeves, as this home of close to 1,500 sq ft does need work — but will respond well to sensitive upgrading.
