Would Gleann Bui tempt you to go the whole way at the Halfway?

Tommy Barker finds a well-finished end-townhouse in an ideal village setting

Would Gleann Bui tempt you to go the whole way at the Halfway?

Glass half full, or glass half empty? A question you better get used to if you opt to live at the fine, well-finished end-townhouse at 1 Gleann Bui.

Built around the mid 2000s, the stone-faced home is in the middle of Halfway, Ballinhassig. Is half way neither here nor there? Not really, it’s a village community where locals will tell you they’ve the best of both worlds, just off the main Cork-Bandon road, and halfway between the city and Kinsale, with easy access also to Carrigaline and harbour industries, and over the brow of the long shoulder of east-west running hills if needs towards other major employers like Brinny or EMC out in Ovens.

Selling agents are Sherry FitzGerald Brennan Busteed in Bandon, who ended 2013 with strong offers of a good clutch of top homes at and over the €500,000 mark, but they pin a €165k guide to No 1.

They say it’s well finished and comfortable inside, very well-insulated (the B3 BER underscores the point) and has one of its three bedrooms en suite, plus a guest loo, so is well provided for on the plumbing front. There’s a brick and stone hearth fireplace (there’s also oil central heating) in the main front 15’ by 11’ living rooms, and the rear is home to a 18’ by 11’ kitchen/dining room.

There’s a compact back garden/yard, so for those into low maintenance, that’s another plus — grass half full.

PRICE: €165,000
