Des res on Derg

Lay down the hurls and sliotars, forget the rivalry and any auld big match that might be coming up - and pick up the oars or rods instead for peace, quiet and a waterside retreat at Co Clare’s Anna Carriga Marina Walk.
Here, a development of holiday and second-homes by the widest part of Lough Derg, (four miles from Killaloe), sees a mix of 12 townhouses, some cottage style, and nine larger, more luxurious detached four-beds. Now, one of the 1,400 sq ft four-beds at Marina Walk out the Scarriff road, with lake and deck vistas, is for sale, with a €110,000 asking price quoted by Colette Hanly of Clare Tipp Properties. She says it’s in a very well-run complex with tennis courts, near the Killaloe Yacht Club and by the University of Limerick Activity Centre, ideal for those into water activities.
It’s also pure hurling heartland, by the way, with Tipperary across the lake, (the county divide runs through Lough Derg), as well as Limerick below, Galway to the north-west, and even Cork brings up the back line, in geographical terms at least.
The well-run Anna Carriga complex has a restaurant/pub with marquee for weddings, outdoor tennis courts and boating berths, and house owners here qualify for half-price moorings along a stretch of Lough Derg.
Many of the units are privately owned, ‘though planning restrictions stipulate that they must be for second/ holiday home use, and there’s a €1,500 managment and services fee annually, with a €250 a year sinking fund - which doesn’t refer to any boating threats. One of just a handful being sold by the management company, this Marina Walk house is being offered fully furnished.
