Room to extend upwards, sideways or at back in suburban bungalow

A GOOD, basic-enough but good-to-extend Bishopstown bungalow is on offer at a sub-€200,000 price via agent Jarlath Boyd, of Timothy Sullivan Associates.

He’s selling No 61 in Uam Var Drive, in Cork’s western suburbs off the Curraheen Road and he reports good initial interest despite the generally quiet summer month. Come September, it should be well under way to being sold, he reckons, after starting viewings last week.

Lots of these Uam Var homes have been extended upwards, sideways and to the back as even a cursory or curiosity-driven drive around the area will show (lots of Veluxes to the back of many, for example) but No 61’s in a quite original, albeit fairly well-kept, state at present, with double glazing fitted, and oil central heating in place.

It has had a modest kitchen extension, so there’s space for a dining table (many Uam Var houses had small kitchens, and serving hatches to dining rooms) and has just over 800 sq ft. It has two reception rooms, three bedrooms, and kitchen plus main bathroom, as well as back porch/sun-room/utility.

No 61 has got a 17’ deep garage off to the right, so there’s scope to bridge over to this perhaps for an extension footprint, and as the back garden is generally south-facing, it could be good to go larger out the back as well.

VERDICT: Popular location, and good aspect.
