Fleming HQ for sale
The group, which grew rapidly during the boom, had interests in the UK, China and the US. Flemings expanded to encompass many dozens of companies, involved in homes and apartment buildings, and mixed-use schemes, and had an innovative steel-frame construction arm, with a major factory for export, in Ringaskiddy, as well as energy interests in the US.
At peak, the company was turning over €200m a year, and employed up to 2,000, directly and indirectly. The Fleming Group developed a number of leading Irish hotel resorts, including the Inchydoney Lodge and Spa, which was sold a number of years ago.
It was also behind the Fota Island Resort, where a sale to overseas buyers, the Beijing-based Reignwood Group, was agreed last year for over €20m, but has since collapsed, with new sales talks in train.
New to market this week, as part of the collapsed Fleming empire (John Fleming moved to the UK in 2010 to serve out bankruptcy) is the Fleming Group HQ, which was built in 1999 and comprises a two-storey, 12,500 sq ft office block, with a 17,000 sq ft warehouse to the rear, all on a site of one acre on the Cork Road.
Agent Don Brennan, of Sherry FitzGerald Brennan Busteed in Bandon, says they’re all in excellent condition, with air-conditioning, meeting rooms, etc, and the warehouse building (used to trial the innovative Fusion steel-frame panels for mass-unit construction) has three-phase power.
There are 30 car-parking spaces to the front of the building, and more behind.
The building mix makes it suitable for a range of new occupiers, from engineering and fabrication to offices and other uses, and while no price is given, it’s likely to be in the region of €600,000.
It’s offered on behalf of receivers, Baker Tilly Ryan Glennon, who were appointed to nine of the Fleming Group companies, and as administrators for a number of UK ones.
