Anchor down in Ancaire

The first night the owners of this West Cork farm sprawling homestead called Ancaire spent under their newly-acquired roof gave them the realisation they’d have to spend a bit more — a gale blew one of the windows in.

The next owners won’t have that problem: there are now 46 new windows, all in teak, painted and double glazed, as well as 10 new teak doors to the house and adjacent guest cottage’s various entrances. In addition, the next occupants can sleep soundly knowing all the roofs are new too.

Redone also is the wiring, the plumbing, the damp-proofing, and the insulation, and a sheltering arch and door now leads to a private, sun-trap west-facing patio by the guest cottage which has rental potential. The two acres has been productively laid out, and the building cluster includes a detached home office/studio, and a large and dry garage/shed, ideal for work, or storing boats or vintage cars.
