No better place to BallyB

Built about 10 years ago, and packed with some interior finery, is this glenside Ballybunion stone home, off the Doon Road just a minute’s downhill walk to the famed Ladies Beach.

No better place to BallyB

And, life could be a bit of a peach here too, with quality finishes in this modern ‘upside-down’ build.

It has got a feature elevated rear patio garden and courtyard BBQ area and garden room, accessed from the first floor living space, as well as from an upper level bedroom, or via steps up along the side of the attached garage.

The setting is pure glen, with grassy sloping hills on this slalom-like route down to the sandy and cliff-fringed Ladies Beach. Traditionally, men bathed on the beach off to the left of the castle ruin, with women and children to the right, and this house en route is one of the most modern on the row, in among small traditional holiday cottages.

Auctioneer Tom Dillon of Sherry FitzGerald Dillon Prendiville guides the house, called An Gleann, at €275,000, which is towards the upper end of the price scale for holiday homes, but is comfortable enough for year-round use.

Although seaweed baths are a local speciality, this private house has other more comfortable options like a Jacuzzi bath in one of its two en suite bedrooms, while the other has a large power shower with steam/mist feature — in case there isn’t enough mist at other times of the year.

Two of An Gleann’s three bedrooms are downstairs, and the stairs are in pitch pine, as are the windows.

The floor upstairs is concrete, topped with pitch pine in the landing, and with walnut elsewhere and in the living room.

This is a large dormer-style space with open fireplace, there’s an adjoining kitchen with painted solid timber shaker-style units and granite tops, and a Smeg gas hob among other integrated appliances. There’s also a pantry.

The house is piped for music, has oil heating, and natural finish materials outside include stone facing, teak fascias, pitch pine sash windows and cast iron gutters.

VERDICT: An easy to keep plush home within a scent of salty tang air.
