A perfect finish — now priced to sell
HOUSES that are dickied up for sale are often a let-down when it comes to the bedroom department.
The grandeur, exquisite taste and comfort of the ground floor often seem to stop at the stairs, as if the place where one spends half one’s life is somehow less important. Not so. A bedroom has to be one of the more important rooms in a house, yet bedrooms are often a disappointment in viewing terms and bland at best.
No so, however at Riverbank House, Glenbrook: this is a property which is finished to a tee, all the way through from ground to second floor. And weighing in at over 3,000 square feet, this detached, water-facing house is a gem — and a bit of a bargain too. A competent work of restoration has been done here and this old Georgian has been dressed from the inside out.
Walls are dry-lined and re-plastered, but with proper, hand-made copies of the original roses and coving and the house is 21st century in terms of electrics and plumbing. Two rooms deep on either side of central, staircase/ hallway spine, this is fine family home that stands alone between two terraces just above the main Monkstown road.
It’s in pristine condition and has an attractive kitchen living space on one side and a double sitting/ dining room on the other with an old range tucked into one chimney breast. Ceilings are very high, windows deep and colours are straight out of a heritage collection but in softs greys and whites.
Upstairs, there are four main bedrooms on the first floor, with handsome fittings and including, en suite rooms in two. The guest bedroom is the larger of the two, but the master bedroom gets the harbour views. These can be had from every front facing window. On the top floor there are two guest bedrooms, a bathroom and quality office space. There isn’t an inch that hasn’t been finished.
VERDICT: Originally on the market at €550,000, Riverbank House has been reduced to €350,000 by agents Cohalan Downing.
