Get your claws on Lobster Ponds
A dream or two may have been washed up on the coastline here (along with lots of crustaceans) at Derrynane, beyond Caherdaniel on the Ring of Kerry — but a promise still remains at this blissful bayside setting.
Anyone hoping to get their claws on a very special slice of one of the country’s most beautiful and photographed views is invited to view the Lobster Ponds (bottom of pic), a seven acre property mix on the market with David Ashmore of Sherry FitzGerald in Dublin and Sherry FitzGerald Daly in Kenmare.
Derrynane is different: half the world feels entitled to call it their own special place. On offer here at Bunavalla, Derrynane is a bungalow, former lobster processing plant/warehouse, and holding ponds as part of a one-time aquaculture venture. Some years ago, full planning was granted to demolish/ refurbish and replace with what Mr Ashmore calls “the basis of a utopian residential retreat”. The house would be enlarged to 3,700 sq ft, with upstairs living space for views, and the ponds would be reconfigured as a private harbour and boathouse, next to a small, white sand public beach. Planning permission runs out by July 2013, and “there’s now is a truly unique and splendid opportunity to either continue enjoying the property in its present form or to explore re-development opportunities to create a residential retreat to a signature design,” enthuse the selling agents.
VERDICT: Take the plunge
