House of the week

There’s a wry joke about the Irish socialist — who believed in a bungalow for everyone. But even with that most democratic of Irish dwellings, some bungalows are still more equal than others.

House of the week

Take this little beauty at Ardbrack, for instance. You won’t get in here with much change out of €1.2 million, even though in style, this house is replicated everywhere. The difference? Location, location, location. The property has been used as a sometime home by retired ex-pats who’ve beaten a retreat here from the mugginess of Florida in the hurricane season. Now even Floridian mugginess is looking more attractive than stair-rod rain, so their exclusive Ardbrack home, called September, is on the market with Cohalan Downing.

And what can you say about Ardbrack — the hyperbole cupboard is laid bare when it comes to describing the views, the aspect; the sheer panorama of Kinsale harbour from this cliff top perch. And despite running the gamut from small and low to high and brash; sugar cube to cookie cutter cute, houses in Ardbrack command seriously high prices as long as they command that view.
