Moving on: Size up a dream home
THIS rangy, dormer house at Croughevoe, Mitchelstown is a dream property — so much so that the self-builders here added everything from their wish list.
And that includes plenty of living space, loads of bedrooms, a games room, an outdoor pavilion with water feature and raised beds and a separate detached garage which functions as a home/business site.
The returning emigrants came at the tail end of the Tiger boom, and, unfortunately, with one working in construction, they have to pull themselves away from their dream home and leave the country — again.
Aidan O’Brien, of JJ O’Brien and Sons, Mitchelstown, is in charge of the sale of this impressive property and is seeking €550,000 for the house, and site of just under an acre.
The house is a very substantial 392 sq metres or 4,200 sq ft, on a site which is fully-landscaped and which has views over three counties and the Galtees — hence the name.
There’s more than a hint of the shires in the layout of the informal living space on the ground floor, with lots of rustic brick and a fine, inglenook fireplace that’s expertly made.
This area, including kitchen/diner/conservatory has the same space as a large semi, at 1,125 sq ft alone, and the quality of material used is high, with black granite worktops, cherry units and a range cooker in the kitchen area and quality marble tiles in the living rooms.
The ground floor includes a beauty/therapy space off the main entrance hallway, which could adapt to other residential use, or continue in semi-commercial use, says Aidan O’Brien.
The house also comes with three bedrooms on the ground floor, all of which are en-suite, and the master bedroom is huge, with walk-in wardrobe and full bathroom.
“One of the main selling points of the house is the sheer quality of the finish,” says O’Brien.
“No expense has been spared and the bedrooms exceed hotel standards.
“The layout of the living space, with French doors to the decking area, makes this whole area a dream set up for entertaining,” he says.
“There is also a large games room with all the requisite gaming equipment. Other rooms include a fully-equipped office with bathroom and utility area.”
The final flourish is a two-car garage and the meditation area in the fully laid out and professionally-designed gardens.
VERDICT: Worth a look for those seeking a top quality property in north Cork or even further afield, as Mountain View is just three miles from Mitchelstown between junctions 12 and 13 on the M8, which makes it a fast commute to Cork city.
