Peace, tranquility and harbour views on the edge of the city

A three-bed cottage has plenty of potential for the price, writes Tommy Barker.

EXTENDED already, but only to a bit over the 1,000 sq ft mark so far, is Carrigview, a neat-sized three-bed single-storey cottage with Cork harbour views at Lotamore, Mayfield.

Only a couple of miles above the city on the north-east side beyond Silversprings, it feels very country, aided in part by its 0.4 acre site and general airiness. There’s also distant Cork harbour views from the back end of the gardens.

Needing a bit of updating, it’s nonetheless going to be a fairly manageable project for any buyer given its starting size and overall reasonable order.

It has an open fireplace in the living room, plus oil heating, and double glazing, so even a decorative makeover will get things going for those keen to make their mark on a home they can buy for around €200,000.

It’s new to market this month with Clare O’Sullivan of agents Savills, is already under offer, and viewers like the mix, she says, adding “it’s got total peace and tranquillity”.
