Take your pick at Ashwood

BELIEVE it or not, there is talk about a shortage of starter homes around Cork city — the inference being that outer suburban locations are now eschewed in favour of walkable, city side addresses.

And up this week are two such properties at Ashwood on the South Douglas Road, an area in which proper starter homes are hard to find: usually houses in this older, inner suburb are trading up buys.

At Nos 1 and 5 Ashwood a buyer can pick up a good, en suite, guest bathroom semi for around €225,000 through Thos J O’Driscoll and Co.

And while both properties are rented, these are modern, three bed semis in good condition which would mean immediate occupation. There are only 14 houses here in a quiet cul de sac, says O’Driscoll, and the area is within walking distance of town, while the off-street parking is also handy.

The layout includes a sitting room of 12’ by 11’, a large kitchen/ diner of 17’ by 11’ with patio door to the garden and a guest bathroom off the main hallway.

The master is en suite, bedroom two is a double and three is single. Both houses have walled in gardens at the rear and to the front and are also a walk to Douglas village with the south ring road close by for commuters.
