Reduced price for substantial Killegney sure to appeal

THIS is the second time around for Killegney, a large, detached house in a sunny corner of Strawberry Hill in Cork city.

Reduced price for substantial Killegney sure to appeal

Initially launched in 2008 and then withdrawn, the substantial property was tagged at €1.2 million — today it’s down to €800,000, which is still big money.

But this is a property that’s going to appeal to a certain type of buyer, and while Killegney is not an impressive Georgian or neo-Gothic pile, it has a lot to offer.

A 1960s two-storey with all the hallmarks of a busy family home, Killegney is a comfortable property. And the site is just gorgeous.

This corner, two-thirds of an acre site has old stone walling on to Strawberry Hill and Shanakiel Road.

The house, which sits in the middle of its grounds, has four bedrooms and range of living rooms along with adjoining shed, wood room and covered car parking.

The lower lawn, which is completely level, is raised over the road, but private and surrounded by a boundary of mature trees. There are a couple of quaint steps and paths leading down from a south-facing terrace and an enclosed deck for summer use.

The second garden, on the approach to the house, is higher and includes a lush border that wraps around from north to east, divided by the driveway

This is just past new landmark, no 1 Strawberry Hill, built by architect Haroldo de Oliveira and short listed for the Irish Architecture Awards 2010.

Haroldo de Oliveira, (who is a senior partner with Jack Coughlan and Associates), also designed Altus on Wyse’s Hill.

The 29 single, duplex and triplex apartments by Cumnor Construction, have never been publicly placed on the market, and is an indication of the quality of housing in this area. Killegney is well up there and it’s child-friendly, secure and private.

Anthony O’Regan of Keane Mahony Smith is the selling agent with a guide price at the lowest level for nearly 10 years.
