Gleann Fia properties finished to highest level
“The three-bedroomed semi-detached houses are around 1,100sq ft (100sq m), which is spacious for that house type,” says auctioneer Michael Russell of the estate which is just 300m from the centre of the village.
“They’re finished to a builder’s finish but it gives the purchaser the opportunity to put their own stamp on it.” In other words, if purchasers so wish, they can agree a price that will include a level of finish to their own requirements.
“The last two we’ve sold, the owners have opted to finish it themselves, but we’ve sold them both ways recently.
“Castlemartyr, about 2km away, would be the principal basic shopping town for Mogeely residents,” he says. “They have grocers and pharmacy and so on and it also has Pat Shortt’s pub.”
The famous actor and comedian’s public house is a major attraction in the area and one where its illustrious owner frequents as often as he can, sometimes even pulling pints behind the bar.
The surrounding countryside consists of rich farm land so it’s no surprise to find a large Dairygold processing plant in the village. The nearest beach is at Garryvoe, just 9km south.
Although the location feels as far away from urban life as one could possibly get, access to the excellent local road network means that Cork city is only 25 minutes away by car.
The extension of the Midleton rail line has created the option for those travelling regularly to Cork city to drive the 10km to railway station in Midleton, and finish the more congested element of the journey by train. Future extension plans include re-opening the railway station at Mogeely.
Gleann Fia is a fully-finished estate with no ghosts in sight. There are only a few remaining (3-bed semis and one 4-bed detached) in this attractive development, so it’s advisable for any interested parties to get viewing and talk to Michael Russell about prices which, he assures me, are negotiable.
