Your very own Hideaway

IT lapped up on the market last year with the guide of €1.2 million, but now, Tidewater Hideaway near Skibbereen, Co Cork, is at an asking price of €900,000 to tempt a holiday season sale.

Your very own Hideaway

And it’s a big, multi-faceted property at that, which agent Maeve McCarthy of Charles McCarthy and Co feels will suit the right buyer in west Cork. Set on the water, it was originally a fairly unprepossessing bungalow until vendors the O’Mahony family got their hands on it.

Now, it wouldn’t look out of place in the Hamptons, New York (which on the scale of things, has an equivalent cachet to this part of west Cork) and the Adirondack chairs, creamy colours, along with rope railings and wraparound decking, pay homage to the US east coast nautical style.

Located close to the Oldcourt boatyard on the Baltimore Road out of Skibbereen, the re-modelled Tidewater Hideaway offers 3,500 sq ft of space and includes that ultimate Tiger accessory, a home cinema.

Roughly listed, it has five bedrooms, four bathrooms and big open living rooms at ground and first floor level, but that doesn’t do justice to the quality of the finish and the location.

It really has to be viewed, says McCarthy, to appreciate the styling and the space of the house – which includes a detached summer cabin/ boathouse in the garden.

Set on an inlet of the Ilen river, it offers two acres of privacy, great views and a house with a fresh, open-plan layout.
