Lower price for substantial period property

A MOVE to a city selling agent, plus a price drop, may bring some fresh viewings eyes to Mount Lodge, a quite genuine 5,000 sq ft period home near Enniskeane, west Cork.

Lower price for substantial period property

The vendor, a Reiki master who has used it both as a home and a healing centre, had this over lower-ground level villa up for sale last year with SWS Property Services, when it had a €1.35 million price guide.

Since, SWS Property Services has folded its tent and many of its former auctioneers are trading under new firms and names, but as summer 2010 comes around, the appointed agent now for Mount Lodge is Lucy Wolfe in Cork city, who seeks offers close to €975,000.

It means she will have some pleasant trips out the c 40 minute commute beyond Bandon to Enniskeane for viewings of this 1860s-built five bed home on three acres of grounds.

Those grounds include orchard, lawns, some Japanese inspired planting, barbecue, two sheds, etc, all behind electronic gates for privacy, while Enniskeane village is within a short walk. The vendor has been in situ for about 14 years, and has upgraded considerably, says Ms Wolfe, adding that work done has been in sympathy with its period character.

A bifurcated external staircase rises over arches and columns to the elevated entrance door. Beyond the red, fan-lit main door the hall runs back 32’ with decorative arches. This level has two formal reception rooms, c. 14’ square, each with 11’ high ceilings, original open fireplaces and wood floors, while the library is similarly sized and specified, opening to a large 26’ by 19’ rear office or workspace. This upper level also has two bedrooms, one with fireplace, plus bathroom with cast iron roll-top bath, and separate shower.

The lower/ground floor has a modern addition, a Victorian-style conservatory with wood floor to the side, a family room with Stanley stove, kitchen/dining room with oak units, range cooker and granite tops, and three bedrooms plus further bathroom. In addition, there’s a leisure room with sauna, shower, and four-person hot tub. Behind also are stores, and a tack room.
