Schull bungalow on golden west Cork coastline
Up for auction on June 26 in Cork is a dreamily-set seaside home in Schull, west Cork, on a plum 0.4 acre site. Although the 1970s four-bed bungalow needs upgrading, it will attract a sufficiently well-heeled buyer, prizing its rarity in one of the golden Cork coastline’s best spots.
It come for sale with a €650,000 AMV given by joint agents James Lyons O’Keeffe and Downing Commercial, who stress its two strong selling points; namely the fact it is in walking distance of the sea-faring village’s many bars and restaurants, and its direct water access from its private shoreline to the sea and harbour. The townland is Corrydorrigan.
Joint agent Stephen O’Keeffe says: “one closer to the water than this one would be hard to find. You can moor your yacht outside your front door, hop out of bed and take an early morning dip on the shingle beach — healthier than any trip to the spa.”
And the buyer will most likely be a yachtie type, and the full-on harbour views will show all the maritime comings and goings anyone could wish for.
In different, more buoyant times, this would have walked €1m plus, and people would have been eyeing up development opportunities given that a lesser placed townhouse a few hundred yards away sold for around €800,000 only a few years ago.
In the becalmed market of today, any development opportunity can clearly be long-fingered. So, this will most likely appeal to a cash-rich buyer.
They mightn’t bid at auction, but they’ll be there, watchful, to keep a weather eye on it. Sail, and sale, on.
