West Cork period home has had full makeover

THE centrepiece of an exciting €1.3 million farm sale in 2004, the period residence at the heart of an 80-plus acre dairy farm, is back up for sale after a full makeover. Asking price now for the curiously-titled Madame House, offered on 5.5 acres at the townland of Madame, Ballinascarthy is €850,000.

The period home, four miles from Clonakilty and overlooking the scenic amenity lake at Madame, was bought six years ago by a local farmer and builder who was also actively building at nearby Clogagh.

Having kept the farmland and milk quota which he’d bought separate, and after a full renewal of the original 1830s house, including putting on a stone facade and pvc double glazing, he’s looking to move it on.

Auctioneer Ray O’Neill of Sherry FitzGerald is selling this part of the Madame mix, which includes the period three storey home, paddocks, courtyard with various outbuildings and stables.

The restoration kept much of the original internal feel and charm and rooms include a high ceilinged conservatory living/dining area 27’ by 18’ with kitchen and painted units, hall with oak staircase, two reception rooms, one very large, a study, utility, and guest WC.

The first floor has two great big bedrooms, each with en suite and a one has a walk-in wardrobe, and the top floor is home to two more bedrooms, with a shared bathroom between them.
