Curate’s House has mass appeal

BANTEER’S Curate’s House, in north Cork, is being sold to fund repairs of the older, listed building, the local Catholic Church’s parish priest’s residence, which is next door to St Fursey’s church.

Curate’s House has mass appeal

A new market arrival at €275,000 is the detached, three-bedroomed Curate’s House, half a mile from Banteer, on the Clonmeen Road and near the Glen River.

It is on a site of more than 1.1 acres, says auctioneer John Paul Sheehan, of Lisney, in Cork city, acting jointly with Banteer agent, Dermot McCarthy. Essentially sound, but needing upgrading, this is a two-storey dwelling in a V or L shape, with high-pitched, slate roof, and design details including gable shapes, timber fascias and small, matching octagonal windows on either side of the sheltered central porch. Internally, there are original fireplaces, the hall has a parquet floor, and to the rear of the house is a series of low-slung sheds and outhouses. Within a short walk of Banteer — which has bus and rail links (via Mallow) to Cork — it is five miles from Kanturk, and 30 from Cork city.
