Orchard House could be the apple of your eye

WHEN visited 16 months ago as it hit the market for €2 million-plus, the consensus among those who trooped through Orchard House was, it’s about as close to flawless as one could get.

Now, anyone who comes back for a second look, at its €1.5 million guide, might also be surprised to find that it has had a freshening up and a once-over with some more Farrow and Ball paints. Like, it needed it?

Unless house hunters at this upper end of the market are committed to cool contemporary architectures, there really isn’t much to dislike about Orchard House, now set behind not just one, but two, sets of electric gates, the first hurdle being the entry point to this scheme of universally large one-offs, in the former walled orchard of Cork’s Maryborough House, now a superior hotel.
