Chic meeting of old and new
New to market here is the fully refurbished four-bed No 28, also know as Formby. The house’s name, Formby, recalls a previous family of owners’ links with one of Waterford’s maritime tragedies, when the SS Formby and the SS Coninbeg were sunk within days of one another off the south-east coast by a German U-boat in December 1917. Over 80 lives were lost, and a memorial to the victims was unveiled by the then President Mary Robinson on Waterford’s quays in 1997, on their 80th anniversary.
This Formby has had a happier renaissance, done over the past 18 months with an appropriate modern design twist with due deference to the house’s period and character.
