Magical Lough a bonus for Fairy Lawn buyer

THE Lough is – or was – Cork city’s very own Swan Lake, and now a house a short waddle from the wildfowl sanctuary has come up for sale at Fairy Lawn.

The mysterious spate of deaths of dozens of swans, put down to a virus, focused national attention on the Lough, one of Cork’s most loved amenities, and reminded locals of just how attractive it can be.

Now on the market is the three-bedroomed detached house Locmor, just off the Lough Road in the pretty and winsomely named cul de sac Fairy Lawn: its gardens give sneak views of the Lough over the neighbours’ hedges.

Built in the mid-1900s, Locmor now needs modernisation, says Robert Hawkes of Property Choice, who reckons it has about 1,250 sq ft of space, and who guides it as a bit of a do-er upper, at €385,000.

It has two reception rooms, one with bay window, kitchen, guest loo and main bathroom, and three bedrooms, it has gas central heating, and there’s a slender attached garage alongside, giving scope for extension.

Location is great – a minute from the Lough, with good shops and services nearby, there’s a bus service, it is within a good walk to the city centre, and nearby is UCC.
