Glendhu has lots of potential

IT made a market entrance in late autumn of last year, but that perennial Cork city problem intervened – subsidence.

Now, that the constructional equivalent of a hip-replacement is complete, Glendhu, in Blackrock’s Menloe Gardens is ready for its close up again.

The house, which sits on the lower end of the estate facing the green, has a guide in excess of €500,000 and is for sale through Billy Casey of Casey and Kingston.

But best of all, it has a perfect, full south aspect with a lovely garden to the rear and heaps of potential. Which is not to say that it isn’t fine already – it comes with four bedrooms and a large, living and dining room downstairs with separate kitchen.

The kitchen has a big firebreast which once held a range, presumably, and would now accommodate an Aga, while the space to the side of the house would allow an extension to the side and back.

Menloe houses have a cute, arts and crafts look, for the most part and are much coveted buys – the effects of the downturn have hit here and the average house is down to reasonable levels from prices floating near the million mark.

Glendhu is a four-bed semi with lovely period touches, like double window slits at the front door and three-and-three banisters on the turned staircase. All original doors and architraves are in place, and because of the aspect and open plan of the rooms, the house is bathed in light.

Bedrooms are a good size with two rooms to the front and two to the rear, served by a timepiece bathroom of the half landing.

The gardens are not overlooked at the back and the house’s rear veranda makes it look as good as it does to the front.

Definitely worth a look considering the peaceful mature location, the convenience to the city and the Douglas/Mahon centres.
