Park yourself in a Douglas delight

DOWN quite considerably in asking price, and under offer even well shy of that, could be the Douglas buy of the moment — the solid home Endersby.

Park yourself in a Douglas delight

The four-bed, detached house on a corner suburban site, went for sale last autumn, seeking €650,000: the price has now been dropped quite considerably by agent Billy Casey of Casey and Kingston to €550,000 — though its current offer is even lower, in the higher €400,000s. He rightly expresses some puzzlement as to how it is still available.

A real modernisation job, doing a good job on a house with all the essential attributes such as this will surely prove a good medium to long-term investment for those who defy the market negativity, and jump in now.

This four-bed, detached mid 1900s house, build by Denis McCarthy, is on a fine large corner site in Loreto Park, between the two parallel Douglas Roads in Cork city.

It is more or less mid-ships on the site, with lots of corner road frontage and mature screening, so there’s plenty of breathing space and extension options. One route might be linking back, at an angle, towards the detached garage, to get evening sun, and another might be to go up into the attic for a larger master bedroom suite.

All of the main rooms are a good size, the kitchen has a dog-leg extra section, and the hall is particularly large, with old oak flooring and scope for an understairs loo to be snuck in, if space isn’t found for this in a future extension.

Endersby needs a thorough refurb to bring it up to today’s specs, but it has been underpinned with drains replaced, so that job is already taken care of. At its revised price, and with lower building and tradesmen prices, it is a goer, and will be a great quiet family home location, close enough to walk to the city and to Douglas from.
