Single-storey bungalow a spacious family home both inside and out

LOTS and lots of work has been done on Bayview Lodge, a 2,500 sq ft single-storey bungalow with views over Cork harbour from its elevated Monkstown setting.

Single-storey bungalow a spacious family home both inside and out

Clearly spacious from its outside alone, it is a very well finished out and reworked family home inside, says selling agent Johnny O’Flynn, of Sherry FitzGerald’s Cork city offices.

He seeks €750,000 for the trading-up options, with five double bedrooms, a very fine newly installed kitchen, good bathrooms, all on a decent 0.3 acre wooded site above the Strand Road.

Mr O’Flynn promotes the sense of space, and the harbour views from the house as well as from the sloping site, and says there isn’t a small room in the whole house. Even the walk-in wardrobe, L-shaped, is a good size, he adds.

The house itself is about 20 years old, but has had a fairly thorough makeover inside in the past few years, with the key requisites of kitchen and bathrooms getting the modernising treatment.

The kitchen, in particular, will be a viewing pleasure, he predicts, stepped slightly up from the dining area, with solid walnut units and natural granite tops aplenty, along with integrated appliances, contemporary lighting and flat-screen TV. This kitchen/dining space, at the eastern end of the house, has a south-easterly aspect and views back toward Cobh via its two large windows. Also well set for light and views are the 21’ by 14’ family room, and two bedrooms, one — the master — is large, has a big four-piece en suite, unusually the bedroom an open fireplace and this private sleeping space has that capacious walk-in wardrobe.

There’s also a family room off behind the kitchen, a utility is beyond that again, there’s a guest WC off the split level hall, and the rest of the back of the house is given over to three bedrooms (most of them doubles) plus upgraded family bathroom with twin sinks and vanity units.

The house has attic Velux windows, oil heating, alarm and mature gardens with lawns, mature trees and drive, and shares an access road from Strand Road with a couple of other private houses.

Monkstown itself and its quays and amenities are a few minutes walk away, Ringaskiddy and Carrigaline are a short drive away and there are several commute route options back to Cork city.
