Breathtaking views give bungalow magical qualities

WHEN the sun shines you could be looking on the Greek islands and the Aegean, and even when Irish skies are overcast there’s something magical about Slea Head and the Blasket Islands.

A house with an enthralling view, and named after the craggy, jutting up northern rock of the cluster An Tiaracht, is a new market arrival with agents DNG WH Giles, and its vendors know the absolute rarity of its site value: the house (which has been rented at the upper end of the holiday home scale, appearing on several websites) has a €1.5 million price guide.

The naysayers and the old world Peig Sayers may feel that’s steep for a four-bed 1,200 sq ft bungalow, but this is no ordinary bungalow in a field. It isn’t its four en suite bedrooms that set it apart, or its 360 sq ft basement with conversion potential — it is the breathtaking views.

There’s an outdoor viewing terrace to the front, above the basement garage, glimpsed here in the picture with twin cheery red sun umbrellas...which could well take flight if left up in the off-season.

Agent Katherine Symes of DNG WH Giles says the house must be seen to be appreciated, but even more true is the view, to the Great Blasket, its smaller siblings, and the thrusting craggy outline of An Tiaracht and the Skelligs.

“There are very few properties in the nation which could boast views like this,” she says simply.
